Our Story

The Calling

The call to pastor was placed in Ryan's heart many years ago in ministry. The initial seed was planted in high school,  and years later it was watered through a spiritual mentor that saw something in him, that he didn’t see in himself that led him to think, "What if?" - "Do I have what it takes?” His mentor advised him to never get ahead of God, or behind God, just stay with Him and He’ll guide your every step. Without fail, every time God changed what ministry looked like for Ryan, He also changed his desires and passion for the calling to go with it. That’s just like God, isn’t it? When He started stirring in his heart towards pastoring, the passion for music and worship shifted to a passion for teaching, leading, counseling and ministering on a different level. He continued serving in his existent roles, while pursuing and furthering his education in the role he saw coming. The direction became clear in 2018 as God instructed him to step out in faith and begin planning the birth of a new church in San Antonio.

The when and where weren’t clear at first, but the goal was unmistakable; plant a church that will plant churches. As months came and went, doors began opening and the path began getting clearer and clearer. “The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, shining brighter and brighter until midday.” Proverbs 4:18 Through much prayer, research and countless hours of counsel, the timing, a name and general location unfolded.

The Name

The name, Freedom Hill Church has a lot of meaning behind it and is dear to our hearts. Our focus, mission, passion and drive of the church is to show others how to be free in their walk with Christ and not conformed to man’s doctrine or convictions. Freedom from sin, freedom from legalism, freedom from lies the enemy tells us. We have FREEDOM IN CHRIST!

The hill also has many meanings - it was on a hill that our freedom from sin was bought. When we gather as a church it should be a mountain top experience. Freedom Hill was an actual rally point during the civil war. Armies would gather there to encourage and build up the troops before going into battle. Soldiers were never sent to Freedom Hill though, they were sent from Freedom Hill. Much like this rally point used in the Civil War, Freedom Hill Church will be a place that the soldiers of the cross are sent out from. To arrive at freedom means there will be many battles with the enemy. “For freedom, Christ set us free. Stand firm then and don’t submit again to a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

Freedom Hill will be a place where churches plant churches. We will be a sending Church as we raise up disciples that are on mission for Jesus. We plan to rally the team at Freedom Hill on the weekend and send them out to be the Church in the community during the week and surround the city of San Antonio!

Freedom Hill Church, Inc. was officially incorporated on November 12, 2018.

The Plan

Our plan is to put into action the calling and tell as many people as we possibly can about the only one that can change their life! Our desire is to disciple Freedom Hill into existence.

We have a  vision of reaching every age and stage, every culture and community. We want a place of growth for everyone that walks through our doors, from new believers, youth, infants & toddlers, widows & widowers, single parents & married couples, ladies, men and seniors, to feel they belong.
